What Causes Heart Murmurs Post Child Delivery?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Oct 2016
Question: Hi,

I delivered baby girl by c section 2 months back. When I went to gynacologist for a check up, she told that am having heart murmurs which might be due to low haemoglobin. Blood test was done and my total blood count, rbc and haemoglobin levels are found to be normal. Haemoglobin is 13.5 gm/dl. Doctor told that heart murmurs might be because of tiredness and asked to come back after a month.

Am worried about this murmur as it was not detected during my pregnancy. Please let me know whether I need to take any test.

A week back my heart beat was fast and was having dizziness. I was fine after sleeping for 2 hours. I felt heart beats while lying down towards my left.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You need further assessment & assistance

Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

You need to have a second opinion by a heart specialist (Cardiologist)… Get examined. Some investigations are in order… The first step is to see a Cardiologist

HEARTBEATS
Heartbeats need to be DOCUMENTED by ElectroCardioGram (EKG). Standard ECG records the electrical activity of the heart, for a few seconds. It can detect the arrhythmia occurring during that time only. If the episode occurs randomly or is precipitated by a specific activity like exercise - one needs Holter or event monitor. Holter records for days; Event Monitor for weeks… Holter records continuously; Event Monitor only at certain times

Obviously it I snot from Anaemia… (most common cause)
Anxiety / Alcohol / Tobacco (smoking) / Caffeine (too much tea, coffee, cola) / Fever / Infection / Pain / Stress / Thyroid / electrolytes / Medicines like Phenylephrine used for ‘cold’; Salbutamol used for asthma and so on - may be responsible...,
At times, abnormal nerve paths in the heart (bypass tracts) or disease of the conduction system may be responsible!
Blood tests especially for thyroid and electrolytes are necessary…

MURMUR
ECHOcardiogram is necessary to see the heart valves (Mitral Valve Prolapse) / heart muscle (Cardiomyopathy) and heart function (Ejection fraction, wall motion abnormality) / clots...
(DCM) Dilated cardiomyopathy - (primary heart muscle disease) may occur only after delivery – it is called Postpartum DCM. Pulmonary hypertension too may be detected first time in such situation…

GET EXAMINED
The treating doctor alone could conclude better based on total clinical picture…
Prognosis is generally excellent in such situations

Good luck
God bless you
