What Causes Heart Burn And Dark Stool When On Zegred And Cleocin?
Question: First I have a hyatial hernia that I take Zegred for. For the past week I have constant heart burn and gas that is foul smelling and dark stools. For a few days I had lose stools several times day.There is no blood in my stool. I have taken Nsaids for a dental problem and Cleocin. My stomach is sore when I press on it. I have taken pepto with no help.

As you have taken Cleocin which is an antibiotic, the most probable reason of your symptoms is gastrointestinal infection. Please note that an antibiotic destroys natural intestinal bacteria. This bacteria protect intestines against other, not natural bacteria. So when there is no protective bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, bad bacteria can grow and cause symptoms mentioned by you.
Loose stools, fouls smelling gas and abdominal pain are typical symptoms of such infection.
Dark stool, as long as it is not black like a tar, is fine. Tar like stool indicates bleeding from stomach or duodenum.
I suggest you to start with probiotic intake (this should restore good bacteria) and diet change (avoid fatty foods, fried foods, eat more fiber). If this wont help in a day or two, please consult your doctor.
