Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: hi I am 53 yrs old and for 22 years I have suffered with hives to the point of my lips swell, my eyes swell closed, even my throat swells, I even get the hives in my eyes to where the whites of my eyes are horribly blood shot. I have never been clear of these hives everyday 365 days a year for 22 years I have had them all over my body, they have only said I had chronic idiopathic urticaria, over the past few years when I get a really bad episode it is taking me longer and longer to bounce back, these episodes are draining everything out of me.
when I was 13 they removed XXXXXXX od my thyroid because I had a large nodule there and now they found 4 nodules on my left thyroid one of which they are worried about.does this sound like hashimotos disease.
and one more thing I have been taking predisone for 22 years to help stop the outbreaks
my hands and fingers swell to 2 to 3 times their size also

Brief Answer:
Yes, it can be hashimoto 's thyroiditis.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Yes, thyroid nodules can be due to hashimoto 's thyroiditis.
But you need to get done fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) from the thyroid gland to diagnose this.
And your all symptoms are mostly related to long term steroid toxicity.
Prednisone is corticosteroid. And 22 years are quite long time. Long term steroid toxicity includes skin changes, rashes etc.
So possibility of long term steroid toxicity is more in your case.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
