What Causes Grinding Noise After Putting Ceramic Implant In Hip Replacements?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: Hi,
I have had two total hip replacements (ceramic) seven and nine years ago. I do a lot of Landcare work so squat and climb slopes a lot. I don't have any pain but both seem to make a grinding noise if I squat or sometimes when I bend. Is this a problem or just slowly wearing out?

Brief Answer:
Quacking/grinding noise is common after ceramic material of implant.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

Quacking/grinding noise is common after ceramic material of implant.
So do not worry about noise if there is no pain.

It’s better to do routine X ray to see implant alignment after 7 years of surgery.
Wearing out is less likely in ceramic implant after 7-9 years of surgery, ceramic have longer shelf life.

If you reduce squatting your implant will last longer.
