What Causes Fluttering Sensations On Left Side Of Heart Along With Fast Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: I'm having these flutters on my left side where my heart is. My heart seems like it's racing at times. I have been diagnose with chest wall inflammation a year ago and that has not went away. Not sure if it has anything to do with the flutters I feel.

Dear Mrs XXXXXXX,

For answering to your querry I would like to have some more information:
1. when you feel flutter do you have elevated heart rate, have you ever measured your heart rate?
2. what was your precise diagnosis of chest wall inflammation? Have you received any treatment when you have diagnosed first?
3. could you describe your complains more detailed: how they start, is there any provocative factor, how long does it lasts?
4.are your flutters superficial?

I do have elevated heart rate when this happens. I have only been told to take ibuprofen or Advil for the chest wall inflammation. The flutter happen through out the day at difference times. I can describe the feeling of when your muscles are twitching on there own. That's how it feels. Like something's moving in there. I do have sharp pains on my left side. I have been having this fluttering for about 2 months and I just want to know if this is something related to the costochondritis.

Brief Answer:
Complains can be related to costochondritis

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs XXXXXXX,

From your description it seems your symptoms are related to your costochondritis.
If you have elevated heart rate only during pain it is connected to your pain.
For your muscle flutters I would advise you to check serum electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Calcium). If analyses come normal, and you continue have flutters for next 10 days I would advise you to see neurologist and discuss whether there is a need for electroneuromyography.
For my patients I would also perform ECG to be in the safe side.
