What Causes Fluttering In Ear?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Jun 2014
Question: My 15 year old daughter has suddenly developed a fluttering in her right ear. It happens regularly and at random times of the day and night. It is annoying her. She has had it for about 10 days now. She hasn't and real pain with it nor has she recently had a cold. She does spend a fair bit of time with earphones in but not to listen to music but to watch films. Any ideas what's wrong?

Brief Answer:
get audiometry done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for the query.
In my opinion, you daughter might be having tinnitus in her right ear.
Tinnitus can be because of middle ear or inner ear problems. detailed clinical examination with audiometry test can help to detect where is the problem.
Simple wax in external ear also can cause this fluttering sound.
If I were your treating doctor, I would have examined you clinically, and suggested pure tone audiometry and impedance audiometry to detect the cause and depending on the report would have treated you.
If its wax, its removed.
If its middle ear problem, its treated with decongestant, grommet insertion and valsalva exercises.
If its inner ear problem, then its treated with multivitamin+ betahistine tablets.
So I suggest you to consult ent specialist and discuss my views with him.
Hope my answers have helped you.thanks.
