What Causes Fluid Behind Uterus?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Jul 2014
Question: I'm scared. I have lower abdominal pressure. Pressing on my bladder at night and rectum. Pain is mild and comes and goes. Am on XXXXXXX pill. Had negative preg test yesterday and no infection in urine but ultrasound (transvaginal) noted a 3cm cyst on left ovary. It scares me as it appears to have solid bits inside it. So it must be complex? Plus they found about 3cm or 11ml of fluid behind my uterus. Everything I read says cancer! Can't get dr results until Monday. Am very stressed. Does the cyst with the fluid mean it is cancer? Is that a lot of fluid to have behind the uterus? My period should be due in a few days but can be a little irregular with the XXXXXXX pill. I also worry it's an ovarian ectopic? The sonographer told me nothing and it was a Saturday so no dr report until Monday.

Brief Answer:
Fluid is only mild.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The fluid behind the uterus is mild and can happen due to a pelvic infection or due to rupture of the follicular cyst.
The complex cyst in the ovary is worrisome. It needs to be monitored after the periods are over . You can get your serum CA-125 levels tested to detect if the cyst is related to any malignancy.
Do contact your doctor on Monday for further investigations. It can wait till then.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
These images are better. The fluid is mild only- not worrisome but the cyst is complex and needs further evaluation. Although the size of cyst is small but being complex it is best if monitored periodically.
Regards.

What type of cyst does this clear fluid indicate? Dermoid?

Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (21 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Can't be detected just by seeing the image.

Detailed Answer:
All cysts except the hemorrhagic cyst have such clear fluid inside. The type can be ascertained only after a histopathological examination.
