I have to eat every 2 hours approx. When I don't eat my blood pressure rises and then I feel really bad. My blood pressure is not totally controlled yet. Do you think once its controlled it won't fluctuate when I wait too long to eat. I am taking losartan 50/hctz 12.5 (1x/day) and coreg 40 and they just told me to take another cr40 (so they doubled my dose on the cr40 for a total of cr80). I just got back from seeing the thyroid dr. and he's running some secondary tests to check my hormones. Do you think it could have something to do with my hormones or in my head. The thyroid dr. said it could be in my head and to only check my bp 1x in am and 1x in pm. None of the dr's have said why my bp would go up just because I was late eating my meals. So I think that when I need to eat, if I don't eat on time, then I check my bp and it's high because I got nervous not because I didn't eat on time? So I am just stressing myself out. That's what my husband said. He thinks once my bp is controlled it should all work out with not feeling like I have to eat every 2 hours. When I woke up in the am my bp was like 115/76. The dr. said if it was my blood sugar my bp wouldn't have been that good after fasting during sleep that night. Thank you kindly. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Check for reactive hypoglycemia and gastritis with your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear XXXXXXX

1. Having to eat every two hours in order to feel good is related to drops in blood sugar levels. My opinion is that it could be due to reactive hypoglycemia. It's not worrisome or serious but makes you feel hungry even after eating.

I advise to get your blood sugar levels checked every time you feel like eating, record the results and send to me.

2. Gastritis or other stomach problems can also be other causes to feeling hungry even after eating.

3. With regards to high bp, I think you should measure your bp when relaxed and not when feeling to eat or getting nervous. Please take note that bp can be normally raised in these cases. What is abnormal is finding high bp when totally relaxed or after passing such episode.

It's normal to feel stressed as you wonder solutions. However, for the moment, I advise to discuss my suggestions with your doctor as mentioned above.

Try to relax and be patient while waiting for answers. There is always a solution and you'll find it.

Let me know if you have any other query.

Yes I believe you are correct. Do you think it could just be "fasting hypoglycemia?" It all makes sense. If I wait to long to eat in the morning then I crash and feel absolutely awful and my bp goes up because of the anxiety. I just ordered a book about "reactive hypoglycemia bootcamp" and I just bought a blood test monitor. I also made a list of the proper foods to eat together. Now I have to get it all together so that I can feel better. I'm not hungry after eating but if I don't eat the proper foods then I feel weak and tired and have to eat frequently before I go into another episode/attack. So it looks like I need to stabilize my blood sugar levels....right? Please send me any additional hints on how to control this. What if I eat 2 eggs late a night or something you suggest so that my blood sugar is not so low in the mornings or wake up at 2am and eat 2 eggs? I usually don't eat after about 7pm and I wake up at 7am approx....so that's 12 hours. Please send me suggestions to follow for my diet so that I can feel better. Thanks so much. XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Following diet for reactive hypoglycemia

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear XXXXXXX

First, we must make sure that you have reactive hypoglycemia. It's great that you bought a blood sugar monitor, measure your blood sugar levels and record the results and send to me to analyse them further.

Next, should find out what is the cause : organic (problems with liver or pancreas )or it is really the case of hypoglycemia.

If confirmed, diet plays an important role in managing hypoglycemia. It is compulsory to avoid foods /drinks that would precipitate hypoglycemia episode as following :
- avoid foods high in simple carbohydrates e.g. table sugar, corn syrup or fruit juice with added sugar.
- have more foods high in complex carbohydrates e.g grains, pasta, potatoes etc
- protein rich foods are also encouraged to eat e.g. meat, nuts, etc
They will take more time to digest, thus avoiding another hypoglycemic attack.
- avoid alcohol and caffeine rich foods /drinks
- have more foods high in fiber especially soluble fiber e.g. whole fresh fruits, whole grains, etc
- eat often and small portions, have your three large meals with snacks in between. Can have a snack before bedtime in the evening (e.g. nuts or a cup of milk).
- avoid fatty /oily foods

Hope it was of help! Let me know if you have any other query.

I checked my blood this morning and it was 101. I ate a few very small pieces of chicken, whole grain bread and ate nuts and milk at 8:45pm last night before going to sleep. I eat most often during the day so that I don't have an attack so I am eating all throughout the day to avoid an attack. When should I check my blood again before every bite that I eat or before a larger meal?

Thanks so much.

So far I have checked it 2 times today but couldn't wait 2 hours because I started feeling bad and had to eat.

one hour after eating my blood sugar level is 99 on 2/7
then 97 it was approx. 57 mins after eating on 2/7

Before eating it was 160...I was starting to feel bad so I took it before I ate then felt better.

That's all I have so far.
