What Causes Fever While Breastfeeding?
Question: Hi..my wife is breast feeding and is having fever since last 8 hr with temp up to 102..what medicine can be taken safely?

Hello dear,welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the most common cause of fever might be breast engorgement in post delivery period.
The fever indicates that there is foci of infection.
The various causes of fever are:-
1)Breast engorgement or abcess.Here pain of breasts will be there.
2)Urinary tract infection.Here burning urination or increased urination is seen.
3)Vaginal infection in case of normal vaginal delivery which is associated with altered vaginal discharge along with foul smelling.
So the cause can be known by physical examination.
Take panadol for fever.It is safe for mother and baby.
Take adequate fluids upto 3-4 litres to prevent urinary infections.
In case of breast engorgement express the milk out.
