What Causes Fever, Sore Throat And Occasional Burning Feeling In Prostate Area?

Question: Unexplained fever 59 year old male, 5’ 11”, 150lbs:
Smoker some 40 years 1 pack per day – currently on a quit program.
March 2012 open inguinal hernia repair right side
Currently exhibit another inguinal hernia on left side with watchful waiting per GP – symptoms are slight burning after standing / walking and occasional sharp pain usually when sitting.
Looking for an answer to why I had a fever of nearly 103 for several days. My GP diagnosed it as pharyngitis, but I did not really have much of a sore throat. I did have a bit of tenderness in the right tonsil noticed mainly when I would yawn.
GP tested for strep and mononucleosis and both were negative.
Had a chest x-ray and normal
CBC With Differential/Platelet blood work with one flag, sample was taken before starting any antibiotics, and Motrin or Tylenol had been used the two previous days for fever reduction:
Platelets 76 Alert x10E3/uL 150 – 379
Six months ago the Platelet count was:
Platelets 131 Low x10E3/uL
Currently taking a 10 day course of Levofloxacin 500 mg. GP did not note any significance in low platelet count.
A year ago I had a mild fever, some redness in the throat, and tenderness in the prostate that was noted when sitting and during a DRE. It was particularly painful if I would ride a motorcycle for just 20 minutes or so. I was treated with a 14 day course of Cipro, but I really did not notice any improvement, however, since the pain was mild no follow up was done and I was pronounced cured with another DRE, which was still a bit painful.
Just before this last episode of the high fever, I had ridden the motorcycle the two previous days for about 30 minutes, which did cause soreness and a burning feeling in the prostate area. To alleviate some of the soreness, I took a warm sitz bath later that evening and followed up by sitting on a cold gel pad to lightly massage that area for a few minutes for these two days. The following morning I had the beginnings of the fever.
Suggestions on where to go next would be greatly appreciated. Current condition is no fever, but low energy level and marginal appetite - 5 days left on Levofloxacin. Dosage was interrupted for two days as I exhibited some tendon pain in the outer back of both knees. Spoke with GP and he recommend to continue after examination.

Brief Answer:
I only advise for rest and vitamin B capsules once daily.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I have gone through your findings in detail.
At present stage,I only advise for rest and to take vitamin B capsules once daily.
Since you had fever and you are taking antibiotics,it may cause decrease energy and appetite.
You will be fine after completing full course of antibiotics.

Main concerning factor was low platelet in earlier findings.Low platelet is found in many viral infection like parvovirus etc.It is a temporary stage.

Fever might be due to pharyngitis (as you had painful tonsil),viral infection etc.
You may need blood culture, ultrasound of abdomen, urine RE/ME if fever recurs.
Other wise,you don't worry.You will be fine.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.

Thank you for the response.

I would still like an opinion on the prostate. Is it possible that inflammation / infection in the prostate could spread causing fever and inflammation in the throat? Would riding a motorcycle with the saddle seat applying pressure to this area exacerbate the situation and cause spreading of an infection throughout the body?
