Brief Answer:
Supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Fever for 6 months of low grade with work up normal does not make clinical sense and needs to be digged further for both infectious and metabolic as well as hormonal causes for the trouble. Sweaty palms, loss of weight of 13 pounds, appetite loss and nausea should be evaluated for hormonal imbalance like thyroid hormone excess. These all symptoms could pretty much fit in menopausal symptoms and may be relieved by estrogen replacement therapy. Abdominal pain and upper quadrant pain with normal gall bladder, pancreas and other work up is functional bowel discomfort likely irritable bowel syndrome and needs diet and lifestyle adjustments like small frequent means, more fiber, less stimulants, less dairy etc. More yogurt and use of peppermint also helps with the pain.

Nutshell, hormonal causes like thyroid or menopausal causes can lead to such symptoms and GI discomfort is likely IBS and needs complete clinical correlation for better management.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

I was post menopausal in 2005, surgical hysterectomy. Had Thyroid tested it is normal. Also have had colonoscopy, 4 years ago, no issues.
I would like to clarify I had the hyst in 1983, blood test showed post meno in 2005. Furthermore, I was unaware that a "fever" constituted a hot flash. I have been doing an actual fever chart, it is fever. I am also pretty confident I don't have IBS, nor do I have any bowel issues at all, well occasional constipation but that is it. Any other Ideas?

Brief Answer:
Need to find focus of infection

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

With menopausal symptoms and metabolic and hormonal symptoms ruled out then fever of that long for 6 months should have been lethal as that long lasting fever of 101 can be debilitating.

I would like you to visit a physician, they will run all the labs by the book to find out nay focus of infection. Because if there is fever, there must be a focus of infection. They need to find that out. Blood cultures, urine cultures should tell the story.

With no IBS history, this upper quadrant pain may be a sequelae of some pain killer induced gastric discomfort / gastritis or a muscle spasm as all your work up is normal.

I hope it helps. Find a doctor and let them find a focus of infection if any and document fever chart and its patterns.

I hope it helps.

Khan

I don't take narcotics aka "pain killers", I don't drink and I don't do drugs! However, I do take a fair amount of excedrine, sometimes up to 3 times per week. But often don't take it for over a month.... Dr.'s only state FUO.... I already have a fever chart, never goes below 99.8 and usually does not go above 101.3 Oh well, it was worth a try and I have no doubt it will cause my demise if this continues to escalate, which is why I was desperate enough to see if a stranger's insight might come up with something different.

pyrexia of unknown origin

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

As i mentioned earlier, with all other possibilities, This pyrexia of unknown origin needs to be sorted out for the possible cause and that needs thorough work ups like blood and urine cultures to find out the possible cause of this hyperthermia. You should consult a physician nearby and let them work up you up further to find out the possible causes for this pyrexia of unknown origin. You should go through these articles which will help in patient education for fever in adults.

As far as gastritis related drugs are concerned, i did not mean narcotics, simple NSAIDs like advil, piroxicam etc can lead to gastritis and pain like yours.
