What Causes Feeling Of Lump In The Throat?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: Basically i have the feeling of a lump in my throat, more specifically in my esophagus near the collar bone. I've had this feeling for about 1.5 months now. I also feel pressure in my ears and swallowing seems like something is stuck in my throat when swallowing. I had visited a gp and they performed 2 culture tests, one for gonorrhea and the other for strep. My strep came back positive and I was given a round of pee-vk. I took the antibiotics and this did not have any effect. I know this can possible be a number of things however due to my last 3-4 years of risky behavior, I'm worried that this may cancerous. In the last 4 years, I have become a heavy drinker and smoker and have had oral sex with risky partners therefore my concern is that this may be hpv linked. My questions are: If this was really of concern? Also, i don't see any sores in my mouth, or anything suspicious, is there a correlation typically between mouth sores and cancer or is it possible to have throat cancer without visible signs in the mouth? What else can this be? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Not cancer, supportive care , diet lifestyle adjustments

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. History of drinking and smoking, feeling of something stuck in throat with congested ears with pressure like feeling and positive strept is not cancer. Strept may be a coincidence but more likely cause for this is acid reflux which was liked superadded by strept infection you had for which antibiotics were started.

Drinking and smoking triggered this acid reflux and is the commonest cause of such symptoms you mentioned. You need to quit drinking smoking, eat small frequent meals, avoid other triggers like coffee, soda, tea, processed canned foods, spices, chocolates etc. Take some antacids with it and drink plenty of fluids and use fibrous diet. Keep head side of the bed elevated for at least 8 inches . I am sure once you start precautions as requested, you will feel better in a couple of weeks.

Mouth sores / aphthous ulcers favours my suspicion more and less common in cancer. So don't woryr for cancer, just needs diet and lifestyle adjustments and every thing will be back on track.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
