Posted on Tue, 3 Oct 2017
Question: I just got prescribed a new blood pressure medicine. Im taking 10mg of Amplodemine and 10mg of metaprolol. I feel awful. Tired and nauseous. My blood systolic number has significantly lowered to 130 but diastolic is still at 100 with a resting HR of 112. Is this okay? Does it just take time to regulate?

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that tiredness and nausea could be related to amlodipine adverse effects.

From the other hand, these diastolic blood pressure are above the normal ranges and indicate that your blood pressure is still not under control.

But, you should know that every change to the anti-hypertensive therapy, may need some time, up to a week to help achieve a new balance in blood pressure values.

For this reason, you should be patient and wait up to a week to see if this drug will help stabilize your blood pressure values.

But, if the fatigue and nausea persist, you should discuss with your prescribing physician on the possibility of switching to another drug, because the persistence of such symptoms would be indicative of intolerance to this drug's adverse effects.

Regarding your heart rate values, you should know that they are above the normal ranges too. For this reason, it is necessary increasing the doses of metoprolol, if these heart rate values persist in the next days.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

I remain at your disposal for further questions, whenever you need.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
