What Causes Extreme Fatigue, Dysgeusia And Sore Throat While On Lisinopril?

Posted on Sat, 30 Jul 2016
Question: i am taking Lisinopril 40mg for high blood pressure. Been taking it for about 15 years. Lately i have started exercising more but the exercise does not seem to improve my health as it used to. It seems that the more i exercise the more tired and more health issues i have. I am 50 years old. Also lately i am experiencing an unusual taste in my mouth when i eat and a sore throat and light fever. But i have been around folks at work that have been sick similarly but without the unusual taste in their mouths. this symptom checker had medicine reaction listed as the top concern with my symptoms. Thoughts?

Brief Answer:
probably unrelated to lisinopril

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

although lisinopril may cause altered taste, it is doubtful that it did so now, after so many years of usage. I can't exclude it of course, but it seems more likely that your taste issue is related to the infection that also caused sore throat and fever. Upper respiratory tract infections commonly cause taste disturbances, so this is not unusual.

Other disorders that may cause taste problems include rhinitis, sinusitis and tongue problems like candidiasis or B12 deficiency. Sometimes rhinitis and sinusitis may be chronic. If your taste won't improve after the infection (?) is over then other assumptions can be made.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
