Question: Dear Doctor, I had been treated for psychiatric problem and been given encorate chrono 500 twice a day and Risat 2 once at 7 pm evening.. I am taking these tablets for two weeks now and feel that moving around my home (I am polio affected and can only move squatting on the floor) has become more difficult. I also experience saliva problem in the nights. I feel the tablets are causing these problems and I feel normal now and want to cut down on these medicines. Kindly advise what I should do.

Brief Answer: Consult Psychiatrist to change your prescription Detailed Answer: Dear Mr. XXXX, Thanks for your query. You seem to have symptoms suggestive of Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. However, I wish you had mentioned about the diagnosis given by your Psychiatrist, so that I could have given you a more sound advice. Risat does cause dryness of mouth. At the same time, there is a drug interaction between Risat and Encorate, whereby which Risat increases the blood levels of Encorate. Risat also tends to affect the movements, as a side effect. Since you are likely to be on long-term treatment for Psychiatric disorders, and the fact that doses of medicines need to be titrated as and when required, I will strongly recommend that you contract your treating Psychiatrist and apprise him of your unacceptable side effects of the prescribed drugs. He will certainly modify your prescription by either, modifying the doses of the current medicines or, change either of the drugs. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT SELF-MEDICATION WILL AFFECT YOU ADVERSELY. Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any. have a nice day, Col (Dr.) Rakesh Karanwal
