What Causes Erectile Dysfunction?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: History: I used o have performance anxiety issues since I was 20 - but that at that time if I got erect simulating manually , it would remain erect and throbbing for a long time. I used to have erections just like that within my pants when I am in cold weather too.

My marriage was about 5 years back and initially I was ok getting erections. But we didn't have sex for 3 months because my wife said she had had an infection and had to wait for 3 months. But after 3 months although I used to still have erections when lying with her, I slowly started losing my erections. Mornings I woul have morning wood and we XXXXXXX have dry sex. We also had sex for once while she was taking pregnancy pills but then she stopped it because of her mom's advice about side effects. After that I started losing erection when I had to wear a condom. and it was hard to bring it back. Then I started losing it completely I was with her. Even when she tried to get me erect with her hands, it didn't become erect. But when I masturbate after she went to office, I would be able to get it erect. And like I said earlier, it used to remain for a few secnds even after I ejaculated. Right now it gets too soft. (We got divorced about 3 years back but until about 1 year back, it used to remain hard for a few seconds after I ejaculate). I had visited a urologist when I was stil maried and the penal doppler and hormon tests showed no problems (in 2013). About a year back I decided to get married again but I started worrying about my sexual life and whether I would be able to satisfy her. I visited a psychologist and an endocrinoologist on his advice. The hormone tests were again normal (no doppler done this time). Ths psychologist gave me anti-anxiety medicines for abuot 3 montsh and advised doing Yoga. I took the medicines for a month and stopped and could not find a yoga class that suited my time. I also have alcohol problems where I drink everyday (from 2006-2011 until I got married). While I was married i did not drink much but noly about once in a month or two but used to smoke heavily. After we got divorced I started drinking daily again (beer - about 5 bottles of 650 ms each) and had seeked psychological help for stopping it in 2014 but I have recurrences occassionally. Also, I used to masturbate every day - this has been consistently happening since my 20s and to my late 20s it was with delayed ejaculation, sometimes lasting 6-8 hrs during weekends before I ejaclate (with breaks in between for food, etc.) Even during and after my marriage I used to masturbate almost on all days (except during my marriage I would not during weekends when she has no office). After I started thinking about second marriage and any problems, I started worrying about it, my age and how i am almost old, etc. I still worry about those. Also I read the site mybrainonporn and stopped masturbating 3 months on the hopes of getting the erection back but that caused me in losing my morningwoods. When there was 1 day left for 3 months I got frustruated and masturbated and the next day my morning wood was back. But recently I again stopped masturbating for 2 months (For religious reasons) and again i lost my morning wood. Every day when I wake up, I check to see if I have wood. Then I masturbated again and the morning wood was back only today. I still keep checking whether I have a wood when I wake up - or even when I wake up at night for peering of water.

My penis goes limp after ejaculation (masturbation). I aI can go to the toilet, pullback the foreskin easily and wash it IMMEDIATELY after I ejaculate. Earlier this was not the case - about 4 years back. The penis would keep throbbing for sometime and usually feel like peeing immediately after I ejaculate. and I used to have to forcefully point my still erect pens down so the pee would be directed inside the toilet bowl. And at that tie I was not able to pull my foreskin back easily fore a few seconds - about 30 seconds because it still would be erect and slow in softening. Right now it goes limp by half in abuot a second after I completely ejaculate. Also, I find it hard to maintain my erection for a few seconds if I took my hands off while masturbating (This has been the case for some time). I had done a penile doppler test about 3 years back because i could not have and maintain an erection during sex. They said physically I was perfectly fine. I also did a hormone test then and also recently and hormones are also normal. Also I don't have morning woods nowadays consistently if I don't jerk off for a few days like 15 days.

So my problems are 1. No or inconsistent morningwood 2) Penis going limp immediately after ejaculation when masturbating 3) Penis losing erection immediately when I let my hand off the penis (Before ejaculating) 4) I am not getting an auto-erection" - that is not without using my hand when I see porn like i used to when I saw my first porn or sexy lady's cleavage (this was my problem that started in my 20s as well) 5) My fear that I may not get an erection again without simulation by myself or when I am married again 6) My fear that I am old and until when I can have sex

Note: I also have had DVT in both legs about 3 times - the first time was abuot 10 years back and then about in 2 years intervals and now I have varicose veins. I am taking anticoagulant everyday for the rest of my life. Also just above my penis area (lower abdomen?), the veins are thicker. This has XXXXXXX the case when I was married as well.

Brief Answer:
This is psychogenic ED and evidence of Obsessions

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I I need to summarize your problem it can be stated that there is problem in your thinking process. If you attach this much significance it is usual to get psychogenic erectile dysfunction. From the description it appears to me that your thought process is dominated by sex and nothing else.

I feel at least half or more of your problem can be solved if you divert your focus to some outside object. I feel you have the tendency to find faults with your body systems and this causing lot of problems. Although you have not described anything about other body systems but it is likely that you do not find anything in order.

For better treatment please see a psychiatrist as there is ample evidence of obsessive compulsive disorder in regard to sexual functioning. I must assure you that many of your described problems are within normal range and there is little need to be done in regard to sexual performance but there is much need to do with your thinking process.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.

Thank you for your reply. It's very helpful. I have a concern:
I see that premium questions are shown in public as well. I am concerned that this will reveal my identity as my description is very detailed. Also, my name is mentioned in your answer. Is it possible to remove this from public after I close this answer please? I thought the answer will be confidential as any doctor-patient confidentiality.

I also have a question:
When I selected a specialty, I selected "Sexologist" and now it shows that you are a psychiatrist. Not that your answer is helpful, it is very helpful and reassuring; but since I already had visited a psychiatrist, I thought of getting a reply from a sexologist. Please don't take offense in this - I just want to understand if there is a difference.
