What Causes Elevated Eosinophil Counts?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 May 2017
Question: My eosinophils are at 2260 or 31%. For the past 3 weeks I have been experiencing an intermittent almost burning sensation just above the navel and sometimes in the lower left pelvic region. About a week and a half ago my belly became distended and I also have a swollen area just above the navel that was never there before. Pepto Bismal and Tums do nothing. My nurse practitioner prescribed Omeprazole but I do not think that will do anything. I also had an abdominal X-ray series done but that showed nothing significant. I am uncomfortable, my clothes are tight, and find myself eating less because I feel full quickly. I have lost about 5 pounds or so. What could this be? I know the eosinophils are very high but could that also cause the bloated belly? How can this be resolved?

Brief Answer:
hello. You require further evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. So you have mainly two concerns: high eospinophil counts and pain plus bloated abdomen. So the causes of high eosinophil counts are usually parasitic infestation of intestines or some form of allergies. A stool examination can very well detect parasitoses and then deworming medication can be prescribed. Else a short form of antiallergic medication will help. Secondly, as you said pain abdomen, bloating and distended abdomen along with weight loss points towards either a chronic infection like tuberculosis or some form of malignancy. An ultrasound of abdomen followed by a ct scan if required should be done. Please discuss these points with your doctor and revert back.
