What Causes Elevated WBC Count While On Diverticulitis Treatment?

Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: My wbc has been high and have been having stomach pain on my left side, my primary care physician diagnosed me with diverticulitis a week ago. I was on Cipro for 10 days and had a repeat CBC, which showed a high WBC again. Could this been linked to ovarian cancer?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be linked to ovarian cancer. Provide a copy of your results1

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

WBC will not return to normal immediatelu but progessively. The most important aspect is that it should be reducing and not increasing. If you have a decreased number, though higher than the normal, the trend is more important than the absolute number here. This has nothing to do with ovarian cancer as high WBC is not even a stigmata for this disease condition.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

That's a posisbility!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

steroids can induce increased WBC. This is a possibility. Monitoring will tell whether this has been the cause or not as the control sessions carry on.

Could you explain the trend about the wbc mines was 14.6 in April, 14.3 in May and 14.8 in XXXXXXX and this was with taking Cipro for 10 days.
I just received a copy of my blood test and the absolute neutrophils level is 10212 and my wbc was 14.8. What could cause this?
