What Causes Dull Pain In Left Chest Area And High BP?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: I started having a little twinge in my left chest area on the top of my left breast. It is a little twinge and then goes away. I have been on blood pressure medicine since I was 33. I have hereditary high blood pressure. It is managed and I have been monitoring it and it is registering around 124/76. I have been under a lot of stress and am leaving Sunday for Belize for our wedding with our 6 children. I am wondering if this is anxiety? I am 48 years old 5" 9" 165 lbs. Light drinker and non smoker.

Brief Answer:
possible anxiety related if currently stressed

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it is related to stress and anxiety, this is a common cause of chest pain.

Chest pain can come from any structure in the chest from the skin inwards though persons would naturally worry most about possible heart related pain.

Heart related pain , however, most commonly would start on activity when the heart is working the most and stop at rest. It is most commonly central (though can also be on the left side), tight /heavy or pressing sensation.
Associated with shortness of breath, palpitations.

If your pain is similar to what is described above then it may be heart related and you should see your doctor for assessment.

It is possible it is either anxiety related or neuralgia which is nerve related pain.

Neuralgia often presents with pain that lasts a few seconds to minutes then stops.
It may be idiopathic where no cause is found and can sometimes resolve on its own.

You can monitor over the next 24 to 48 hours to see if it resolves, improves or worsens.

If it worsens or you are still very concerned then you should try to see your doctor.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
