What Causes Dryness On The Roof Of Mouth?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Jun 2015
Question: Hi,
I have an unconfortable feeling in my throat. It feels so dry expecially the at the upper roof of the mouth. It started as if I was going to have a sore but after week, it is still the same feeling. I have no other symptom apart from dry throat. I do recall using a mosquito spray within this period.

My mouth also iritates me a lot. However I do not see any significant change in the colour of my tongue. Can a problem related to the throat alone be enough to say I have hiv infection?

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux or dehydration...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

First of all, I would like to reassure you that this is not a sign of HIV infection.

Secondly, recurrent soreness in the throat could be either related to acid reflux from the stomach into the throat or dehydration. I doubt any infection; hence, avoid antibiotics.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water, rather, frequent sips of warm water.
2. Try doing gargles with dilute povidone iodine mouth wash. This will reduce the soreness and reduce the inflammation.
3. Avoid chilled food and beverages, smoking, coffee and fizzy drinks
4. If you have acidity/gastric problem, it would be wiser to take medicines for the same.
5. Use saline nasal spray, to keep the nose moist and prevent mouth breathing, if any.
6. Finally, avoid using the mosquito spray. You may allergic to the chemical.

Hope this answers your query; revert back to me if you have any follow-up queries.
