What Causes Drowsiness And Negative Thoughts After Taking Sulpitac And Pacitane?

default
Posted on Fri, 30 Jan 2015
Question: I took sulpitac 300mg for 8 months and it had a very bad effect on me . Along with that I also took pacitane to remove the side effects of it. But it made me feel sick, drowsy, I couldn't think properly and I didn't feel like living only. Now I stopped it, I'm feeling a little better but I'm hoping that the bad effect it had on me should go away. I feel it was the wrong medicine. Will the effect it had on me go away ? If yes, then in how much time?

Brief Answer:
These side effects will reduce in about 3-5 days

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for choosing HEALTH CARE MAGIC for your health related queries

Sulpitac is Amisulpiride and the drug is an antipsychotic medicine. The medicine is known to produce a number of side effects at high doses like weight gain, extrapyramidal side effects (EPS) (tremors, dystonia, akathesia, mask like face etc), insomnia, blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation etc.

Pacitane is Trihexyphenidyl and the drug is an anticholinergic drug. The drug is used to prevent EPS side effects of amisulpiride. The drug made you sick and confused so you stopped it. These effects will go in about 3-5 days, there is no need to worry.

Now coming to your question. At high doses Amisulpiride can cause extrapyramidal side effects and these side effects usually improve by Pacitane or by reducing the doses. These are not permanent and if you are really having serious distress you can discuss with your psychiatrist for some other drug that don't cause such side effects like second generation antipsychotic agents. You are already taking Aripiprazole and you can discuss with your psychiatrist to stop amisulpiride and to increase the dose of Aripiprazole.

Alternately other drugs like Propranolol, Clonazepam can be used to reduce the side effects of amisulpiride. These drugs help to improve the side effects and results in development of tolerance.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Don't hesitate to ask again if you have more questions.
