What Causes Discomfort In Throat And Gagging?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Apr 2014
Question: Hello....since last Saturday night, I have been feeling like something is lodged in my throat and sometimes feel like gagging a little (only after eating) when I don't eat, it seems to be hardly noticeable. My throat Is a little dry this evening and a tiny bit sore. My husband seems to think I may have scratched it and it will take a few days to heal. I have a doc apt but not till May.I had no problem until last sat. I ate something and felt like I was chocking but I realized I was still breathing so I either got food stuck or I *thought* I was chocking but had this lodged feeling the entire time and didn't notice it till I ate. But, since then it has been off and on uncomfortable. Thanks. Thank you.

Brief Answer: Possibility of mucosa abrasion due to food Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day It's likely that you have sustained injury to the mucosa of the pharynx possibly from sharp food stuff like bone or bolus of food. This causes abrasion of the mucosa and causes a typical foreign body sensation especially while eating or even swallowing saliva. I would suggest you the following which will definitely help 1 warm saline gargling : To a glass of lukewarm water add two spoon of common table salt. Gargle throat with it thrice a day. 2. Eating Banana : one per day. It will dislodge any impacted food particle 3. One spoon of Honey thrice a day with 2 drops of fresh lime added. Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Take care Best Regards Dr T Shobha Deepak MBBS, MD
