What Causes Discomfort Feeling In The Early Mornings After Suboxone Withdrawal?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Nov 2014
Question: hello, I am a suboxone user for about 3 months now. I am on 3mgs of suboxone a day. About a month ago, I started waking up in the morning a feeling like I had been hit by a train, However when I take the suboxone I feel fine. I had to spread out my doses to twice a day (2mg in the morning, 1mg about 6-7 hours after first dose). Before this crappy feeling I use to be fine with suboxone, Only had to take the dose once every 24 hours and I felt fine. Why do I feel crappy now when ever I wake up in the mornings? It is like a feeling that I am going through withdrawal. Please Help!

Brief Answer:
These are no withdrawal symptoms!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have described. They are not suggestive of possible withdrawal effects. They are not adverse effects either. What I will like to know is what were the reasons for which you were put on this drug. This drug is generally used in patients who have opiates dependence. Have you ever been treated with opiates before?

With you spreading the dosage, were you able to get over this crappy feeling? have you ever gone for some days without the medication and how did you feel if so?

In all, not likely withdrawal symptoms. Please, provide responses to the above questions for more in depth analysis and more information.

I hope to hear fro you. I wish you well.

Thank you for getting back to me. I was addicted to perks for about a year. I was never taking really heavy doeses, I would swollow a perk 30 a day, rarely did I take more than that. I decided to get off it and when I tried to go cold turkey I would go through withdrawal. By spreading out the dosage I am fine during the day and experience none of the synptoms. It's during sleeping hours is when I experience the symptoms, of which include vivid dreams, dry mouth and eyes, frequent urination (atleast 3 times a night, even if I didn't drink Anything before going to sleep), and just feeling crappy when I wake up. I've tried going off the suboxone for about two days but experience bad withdrawal symptoms. Also, my urine turns to a dark color and has a strong Oder.

Suggestions below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for following up with me.

This is definitely a difficult one for you. At 23, this is certainly not what I would like you to start battling with: drug addiction. I will recommend you see an addiction specialist to get this addressed once and for all. You need to get over this as soon as possible.

What happens with these medications is that they cause tolerance over time requiring that higher doses than those take before should be administered to achieve the same effects. I am afraid this is what you are gradually getting. Working closely with an addiction specialist would be the best option to address this at this time.

I hope this sounds a reasonable option for you. Let me know what your thoughts are and do keep me posted as you take on this task.

Thank you for your advice doctor. However working with an addiction specialist is something I cannot afford right now. Are their any other options? Have you dealt with patience who had been on Suboxone in the Past?

Brief Answer:
An addiction specialist is the single best option

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you much for this follow up information.

I am sorry to learn that an addiction specialist is something that you cannot afford at this time. There is no better time seeing an addiction specialist than now because any additional day on this medication makes the healing process even more complex. The longer you stay on suboxone the more difficult it would get when you see an addiction specialist. I suggest you give this a serious thought.

I have had clients on suboxone and for those who developed withdrawal symptoms and developed dependence, they were helped by the addiction specialists. Other options for you try at this time are not immediately evident. It would have been to try and wean you off these medications but any attempt proves to worsen the symptoms and that is the reason why you need someone on board to work with you every single step all the way to complete healing.

I hope this helps. Let me know what your thoughts are and whether there is something more you would love us to talk of at this time.

I understand and that would probably be the best decision for me. I wish I could afford to go to an addiction specialist and figure out a plan, I just can't right now. I'm going to try to slowly wean off suboxone till I get down to a very small mg (I'm thinking .25mg) than deal with what ever withdrawal comes.

Brief Answer:
Talk to your doctor about this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this follow up information.

I am so sorry to hear of the difficulties being able to afford seeing an addiction specialist. I understand your difficulties and hope you one day find the means to overcome this.

Weaning off this medication is definitely a great idea and getting you prescribing physician on board is better. Talk to him about your plans so that he can endorse and accompany you all the way as well. Remember you need as much support and motivation as possible in times like these.

IN reducing, make it a very gentle process. I will suggest you reduce every 2weeks by .25mg until you get to levels that you can get off. There is no hurry here and the lone goal is to safely get off this drug and not how soon you do that.

I wish you well. I will stand by yo, any day and anytime to help provide my encouragements and motivation as you take on this task. Your determination would for sure be there to always propel you further.

Keep me updated with your progress.
