What Causes Discomfort Chest In A Person With High BP?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: My husband has long, (20 years) mostly uncontrolled high blood pressure of which he added a 3rd bp medicine in November. His bp is coming down, to 164/86 at the doctors office earlier this week. The Dr. did 2 EKG's at the office and determined that the left side of his heart is working harder than his right and scheduled a stress test for April 7th with a cardiologist. I'm concerned this apt is too far out. Last Friday night, prior to the Dr. apt, my husband woke up with his heart beating very hard, he called it something like a XXXXXXX hammer. It went away and he went back to sleep. But the next day the color of his skin turned very pale and washed out. He's been doing ok, says he's feeling fine but still washed out, no color. And tonight when he came home from work and we kissed, his lips are cold. Do you think it's ok to wait another 3 weeks to get the stress test? I've put my work email here because he will be upset if he sees anything on our home email. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You shouldn't wait 3 weeks, send him to ER...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Apart from hypertension your husband recently had experienced chest discomfort (he has described as heart beating hard as a XXXXXXX hammer), which may be an warning alarm for future cardiac events.

You shouldn't wait for another three weeks to see his doctor because it may be to late for him and he may have a heart attack.

My advice is that you should send him at emergency room to exclude any life threatening situation.

Only after doing so you should plan to run with in a couple of days cardiac echo and stress test.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you and your family health!
