Question: I'm 51. diabetic. I have a toe that under the nail it is black . is it okay to try to drain the clogged blood from under the nail.????Amy

Any procedure that needs to be done on your nail should be done by either your doctor or podiatrist to prevent infection that could potentially affect toes and feet and cause a risk of loss (of toes or the foot).

If this is done outside of a healthcare setting, then possible infection would cause more problems.

If your doctor or podiatrist believes that removal of the blood is feasible that it can be done, in some cases the hematoma is monitored because it would eventually dissolve.
A collection of blood is a possible source of infection because bacteria can breed in this setting so your doctor may give you a prescription for antibiotics to prevent a possible infection.
