What Causes Difficulty In Getting And Maintaining An Erection?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Oct 2014
Question: Hello,

Hope you are having a good day. I have been having a hard time getting an erection. I had an opportunity to have sex twice in last 7 months and each time I could not get or maintain an erection. Before this, the last time I had sex was 5 years back. Since opportunities to have sex in XXXXXXX do not come by that easy I started watching porn more often (nothing deviant, just regular stuff). On an average, I used to masturbate every third or fourth day. I have noticed both watery semen and cannot get a proper erection.

I am 30 years old and diabetes runs in my family but I have constantly maintained normal sugar levels and stopped smoking after failing to get an erection the first time I tried to have sex this year. Despite this I faced it a second time a few days back.

I am worried. Could you please offer some advice.

Also, I think I should also mention that the only time I get a proper erection once in a while these days is when I wake up in the morning to pass urine. It goes away as soon as I pass urine.

Brief Answer:
You need to evaluate in detail.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you are facing problem of erectile dysfunction.

At the outset let me state that this is not due to masturbation that you have been indulged with occasionally.

In majority of cases ED is due to what is called as performance anxiety.

Following measure will help youoost up your confidence and getting good erection.and delay ejaculation.
1) Practice regular exercise for 45 minutes followed by meditation for 1/2 an hour in the morning.
2) Take high protein diet rich in vegetables and fruits and Vitamin A,C,D,E.and Zinc
3)Take anti oxidants like Almonds 5-6 everyday..
4) Avoid alcohol and smoking..

Taking Sildenafil Sildenafil (Viagra)as on demand will help to get good hard sustainable erection and to have enjoyable sex.

If problem persists consult qualified Urologist for clinical assessment and get following basic tests done to find out the cause of ED.
1) Blood tests for Serum Testosterone levels .Thyroid Hormone assay,Blood Sugar ,
Serum prolactin and LH etc.
2) Colour Doppler Ultrasound Scanning of Penis to rule out any arterial insufficiency or Venous leak as a cause of ED.

Further treatment will depend upon the results of these tests and final diagnosis,

Hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to write if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards .

Thanks for the reply, Dr. XXXXXXX I have been exercising regularly and taking care of my diet and yet I am facing this problem. I take almonds, yogurt for Zinc and eggs for protein and I also eat plenty of green vegetables. Even when my sugar levels were high - it was 124 145 and now it is constant at 100 120. I have stopped smoking completely but even when I used to smoke it was only on weekdays and not more than 1 cigerrate a day.

I do not know if it is relevant but whenever I drink a decent amount of water (and I mean upto 3 litres), my urine is completely white in color.

Do I need to consult a specialist for a proper diagnosis. Can you please suggest someone in XXXXXXX

I am worried and would really appreciate your help.

Brief Answer:
Consult qualified Urologist for evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for feedback and follow up.
Since you are getting morning erection your problem of ED seems to be due to performance anxiety rather than due to any organic cause .
Please consult qualified Urologist and get Colour Doppler Ultrasound scanning of penis done to rule out any vascular cause for your ED.
You can find out the name of Urologist from your local family physician.
Thanks and Regards.
