What Causes Difficulty In Breathing And Pain In Chest?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: I have a right side diaphragm that is paralyzed, I sleep in a chair and have no air with little exercise... I had been in a coma for a month from pneumonia going septic... When I got out all of a sudden I had COPD... Lung cavity fills with fluid and have had it drained about 1400 cc... Neurologist sent me to hospital and they did the sniff test to find problem... He was of the opinion that the nerve may have been damaged when they installed the pic line... Not sure what to do but it can't be good for me inhaling all of these inhalers that seem to do nothing... I am holding water in my legs and each Dr goes through the heart test, which comes back no heart problems... Because of the amount of work my muscles do trying to breath I have long term pain around my chest... I think my lung cavity is full again, I can't lay down, and breathing is becoming hard work again... My O2 level is between 89 and 92... When I bend over to tie my shoes, I will drop down to 85-86... I would love to find a answer...

Brief Answer:
You might be having cor pulmonale.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of cor pulmonale is more.
Cor pulmonale is right sided heart failure due to lung pathology.
Since you had right sided diaphragmatic palsy, possibility of fibrotic collapse of right lung is more.
And this causes reduced function of right lung.
So right sided heart failure occur. It is known as cor pulmonale.
So better to get done 2d echo first.
You need diuretics to relieve fluid over load.
So discuss all these with your doctor.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
