What Causes Difficulty Breathing While Sleeping?
Question: I had problem breathing when asleep. I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I asked my doctor if I was ok to exert myself (I'm in the military and I had to run for my pt test) and she said I am fine and I don't need to be on a profile. I've had breathing problems since that day that I pushed myself running. What could this be? They took X-rays but they said it is cleared now.
Brief Answer:
bronchitis may be the reason.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXX, Thanks for your question.
Since your recent chest x ray is good, in my opinion you are having post infection bronchitis. It is quite common to have bronchitis after pneumonia episode. So you should consult Pulmonologist and get done Pulmonary Function Test (PFT). This will tell you about bronchitis present or not and if present, severity can also be measured. Treatment of bronchitis is simple. You may need inhaler medicines and cough suppressant for few days.
So at this moment I advise you to first rule out bronchitis.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you Dr. Bhavsar. Would a medical professional typically advise a patient that they will be ok to continue with cardio after the finding on an X-Ray without any other tests? It just seems like medical malpractice since it worsened my condition?
Brief Answer:
no need to worry.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Exercise restriction is essential if the cause of breathing difficulty is a heart condition. As I read there was no suspicion of heart ailment. In such cases it's not absolutely essential to restrict cardio exercise and training. If you feel the symptoms got worse, you may report back to your pulmonologist for repeat evaluation.
I am unable to comment whether or not we have a case of malpractice. But be calm and consult pulmonologist. He will surely guide you.
Hope I have cleared all your queries. If you are not having further queries, please close the discussion and rate the answer.
