What Causes Diarrhea And Stomach Pain After Taking Bigomet-SR?
Question: Hi.. My doctor advised me to have Bigomet SR 500 since my insulin levels were a bit on higher side. But this medicine is causing me loose motions and now am also feeling stomach ache. Please advise.

I appreciate your concern.
Diarrhea and flatulence are common side effects associated with metformin ( Bigomet SR) use. However, metformin is an important drug in the management of diabetes and should not be abandoned immediately. PPI like pantoprazole can be advised along with metformin to see for improvement as drug associated gastritis or irritation can last for 48 hours and then subside. If however, the diarrhea and stomach ache worsens then you can stop the drug and consult your doctor for other options like sitagliptin or a sulfonyl urea or the same insulin which you were taking before.
