Question: Diarrhea - after taking the Kaopectate dosage of eight doses of two tablets each every hour and the diarrhea continues, what do you do next? The diarrhea started about 24 hours ago and the Kapoectate was started this morning at about 8:30 AM.
Brief Answer:
Please, drink as uch fluids as possible!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this continued diarrhea despite kaopectate. Kaopectate stops diarrhea but doesn't treat diarrhea. It is more for comfort measures than actual disease treatment. It is also generally not recommended for acute diarrhea because it may be caused by an infection and the worse thing to do is to hold germs back in the digestive tract.
Diarrhea does not kill be dehydration does. Drink enough fluids(oral rehydration solutions) and you would replenish most of the lost fluids and electrolytes. This is the single and most important step to take now.
Should this diarrhea persist beyond 48hours or presents with blood, please consider getting in for a medical evaluation, testing and treatment. How many watery stools have you had in total?
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if needed.
