What Causes Delayed Periods And Negative Pregnancy Result?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: Hi
My wife got her periods on 25th July and on 6th August we had unprotected sex followed by an ipill which she had in 4 hours after the act. On 7th august we had protected sex 3 times with new condoms for each act and after each act she washed herself with water.

13th Aug she had bleeding like her periods but less flow(60% bleeding, considering 100%bleeding during her normal periods), no pain, with very few clots(1-3 clots instead of 8-9) and it was there for 3 days almost(on and off). Her periods were due on 25th Aug (she has irregular periods sometimes).

We did a home pregnancy test that week with negative result and did the second pregnancy test on 5th Sept again with negative result.
We also did UPT in Lab with negative result on 14th Sept.
She has no symptoms of pregnancy.
Its 16th Sept she has not got her periods yet.

Is she pregnant?

Brief Answer:
Not pregnant.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The pregnancy is ruled out as all the tests are negative. The delay in periods is due to the side effect of I-pill. It is best to wait for a week more and see if she has her periods on her own.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you Doctor,

Is it necessary to do another test again after a week?

Earlier her periods start either on 26th day or sometimes 37days also..its never been specific on when it starts. Also wanted to know. The bleeding on 13th aug is that considered as periods or we still consider 25th as her periods date?

Thank you once again for your help.

Brief Answer:
No need of repeat tests.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
There is no need to take another test after a week.
The bleeding on 13th Aug was a withdrawal bleeding due to I-pill. The period date should be considered as 26th. But it is normal for the periods to be delayed by 2 weeks after taking I-pill. Do wait for her periods to start.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thank you so much Doctor,

Have some queries, as you mentioned to consider 26th as the date and also normal for periods to be delayed by 2 weeks, i am concerned as it is more than 2 weeks considering 26th Aug her date. Should i wait for 26th Sept date?

Also wanted to share normally in earlier days (before aug) she used to get cravings for some food once or twice a week, but for the past 3-4 days she is experiencing craving for some food like sweets/chocolate or spicy fast food or butter milk just one time a day.. but then it goes off in some time(may be 2-3 hours) . Should we consider this as a symptom or is it because of stress or tension about this reason?

Your feedback will help us alot. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Wait till 26th Sept.

Detailed Answer:
Right now it is best to wait till 26th Sept. for the periods to start. In case the periods are still delayed then you can consult a gynecologist for hormonal treatment to get the periods bleeding.
Craving for a particular food is a non specific symptom and may be present even if she is not pregnant.
Regards.
