What Causes Delayed Menstruation While On Nuva Birth Control Ring?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Apr 2016
Question: Hi there. So this is my situation:
I have been on the nuva ring birth control for 3 years now. Around Christmas time, I had unprotected sex, and I have never gotten pregnant while on the nuva ring birth control. But, this time, I had just switched from one ring to the next ring and didn't go without the bc for more than 30 seconds while I switched them out. Is it possible I got pregnant? Because 3 weeks later I didn't get my period when I took out the ring and I was supposed to get my period. But I took pregnancy tests and they all turned up negative. I'm currently deployed in a foreign country and have no access to abortion clinics, and abortions are illegal in this country. So I contacted Women On Web, and they helped me. I got abortion pills from them (misoprostol and Misoprostol) through the mail and I took them last night, but I'm only experiencing very light cramps and little bleeding. The bleeding is very brown with only a little bit of dark red clumps. And the pregnancy tests still said negative yest day and the day before. Does this mean that I was never pregnant in the first place? I read that if it were an ectopic pregnancy that it would still show positive on the pregnancy test. But all my tests have been negative. Why then did I not get my period? Why is there only light bleeding now after taking the pills? Hopefully you can help me and hopefully have some answers for me. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You were most probably never pregnant in the first place.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Why would you take abortion pills when the pregnancy tests are negative ?
It is very common on the BC to skip a period or two.
Please don't worry about it.
Yes, even an ectopic pregnancy would show up on a strip.
The period could be absent due to stress, travelling, anxiety, weight changes, changes in your sleep and exercise routine etc.
Please do nothing to induce a period now.
You will have it on due time.
If you plan to have unprotected sex, use some form of BC for sure.
All the best.
please feel free to discuss further.

I took the abortion pills because I panicked when I missed my period. I have never missed a period in my life, except for when I went to boot camp. I have always always been regular. So it's most likely that I am not pregnant then? My stomach feels fatter, is it possible for pregnancy to show at 6 weeks? I am in the military and not married so getting pregnant could get me into trouble. Is there a way to feel my abdominal area with my hands to know if I'm pregnant or not? Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
As below

Detailed Answer:
Yes, I think you are not pregnant at all.
It is very much possible for a pregnancy to show up at 6 weeks, it shows up on an ultrasound scan.
You cannot feel with your hands at this early stage at all.
Get a scan if you can.
Take care.
