What Causes Decreased Vision Post Cataract Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Jun 2015
Question: Dear Doctor,
i discussed with you about my cataract problem. I had earlier Uveitis and after recovering from it I found blurry vision to right eye. I underwent cataract surgery 16 days ago.I have certain problems:
1. I can see distant objects clearly. T.V, moblie screens are clear and bright. Eye is clear. No watering or
No redness, etching etc. I took care not to rub eye, no head bath for 2 weeks and no t washed face for 8 days.
2.But I had a problem of floaters. They are more prominent (not actually increased) particularly in day time.
3. I find heaviness or eye under little pressure.
4. Doctor gave me the spectacle number .He said i need not use it except for reading and watching computer.
5. But I am not yet used to spectacles. I find floaters more distinct may be because my overall vision is clear. I started using spectacles 2 days ago. Nearsighted no 2 which was 1.7 earlier.
6.When I read one page of computer screen I feel my eys are tired.I continue Megabrome and Gatilox drops twice a day as prescribed .
7. Is it abnormal or when i will get a smooth vision? should i consult doctor or i will get a practice after about a month? pl specify.I am very much worried.

Brief Answer:
The complete visual recovery will take 6-8 weeks after cataract surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I reviewed your history and the previous questions you had asked me on Health care Magic.

Please find the answers to your questions as below.

1. After cataract surgery your near vision will be decreased and this needs use of spectacles for near vision. Since there is no redness, watering...your eye is fine and no need to be worried about it.
2. Floaters are not related to cataract and probably since your vision has become clear after surgery these have become prominent.
3.Heaviness of eye is normal and no need to be worried about it.
4.Yes you need to use spectacles for near vision after cataract surgery.
5. With the use of spectacles for near vision you will be fine.
6.Feeling of stress is normal in the post operative period and this will become normal as the time goes on.
7. The complete visual recovery will occur after 6 to 8 weeks after cataract surgery. Hence I advice you to continue treatment as advised by your doctor.

Hope this answers your question and the information is helpful to you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Please find the answers for your questions as below.

You can read the book continuously for 2/3 hours.

You can watch T.V, XXXXXXX for longer time no problem will occur.

Adequate sleep of 8 hours is sufficient for rest of the eye.

Cataract is not recurrent but the remnant of the lens can opacify rarely resulting in after cataract and this can be treated by simple laser if occurs.

As the cataract surgery wound will be healing you will problems of stress on watching the PC but no need to worry it will become normal.

Hope this answers your question.

Thank you

1. My doctor dilated my pupil only once in my last 5 visits to confirm uveitis. He took coloured x ray of my eye at that time. After 6 months he dilated for cataract determination. Was he supposed to dilate every time to check the latest condition of uveitis?
2.My mother, 70 years, non diabitic has been detected by Glucoma. Treatment already started. Is it heridatory? What precautions i need to take to prevent it?Is this a curable disease? Are really treatments effective? Is it necessary to tell my doctor about this history of my mother?
3.How many time i need to follow up with my doctor to check uveitis ,from now?
4. Doctor has asked me to stop pred forte. I am using Megabrome and gatilox .He said they are sufficient. No need of pred forte now. Is it true? then what about uveitis?
5. Can i start with the eye exercises i.e. pencil and palming exercise now?
Pl answer urgently.
Will these troubles for right eye reduce the efficiency of it?
Will this be unnecessary burden on left eye?

Brief Answer:
This will not burden your left eye.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Please find the answers as below.

Dilated examination is not required every time you visit your ophthalmologist. Examination once in 6 months is sufficient if there are no finding in retina.

Glaucoma can be treated with treatment and treatment options are available for glaucoma. Glaucoma can run in families hence you need to inform your ophthalmologist regarding family history of glaucoma.

Follow up once in six months is sufficient.

Megabrome is anti-inflammatory drug and it is sufficient for treatment of mild uveitis.

You can start pencil exercises.

Uveitis will not affect your left eye.

Hope this answers your question and information is helpful to you.

Thank you
