What Causes Decrease In The Hemoglobin Levels?

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Jul 2015
Question: Hi, till a couple of years ago, I always had a high Hb count (16.5 or thereabouts). In November 2012, it measured 16.3. In December 2014, during a routine health check up it was 15.1. (In that same check up, I was diagnosed with a couple of heart blocks, and have been taking ecosprin 150 mg for it daily since then). In March 2015, the Hb count was 14.7, and now, in XXXXXXX it is 14.3. Although the count is within the normal range, is there something to be worried about given the gradual drop of over 2 points? Of course, the tests have been done from different labs.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry as this may vary with different labs.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have read the query and understand the concerns.

Normal haemoglobin for an adult male is 13 to 18 g/dl and for adult female is 12 to 16 g/dl. However, this normal range may slightly vary with the testing methods and among different laboratory.

In your case, since december 2014 you have tested HB quite few times and it showed very slight decrease in that level. The change most likely could be due to different different laboratory machines. So don't be worried about it.

Ecosprin 150 mg which is a blood thinner drug may or may not be responsible for your slight decrease in that level. I would advice you to check HB every 3 monthly (considering your ecosprin drug) in the same lab every time.

Hope this information will help you,if you need more clarification then feel free to ask me.
