What Causes Darkish Spots On Lower Thigh?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Jun 2014
Question: My 7-year-old daughter has two adjacent darkish spots on her lower thigh that appear to be brown-ish bruises...but they are not painful to the touch and do not appear to be changing color the way bruises typically do. One spot is a bit smaller than a dime and the other is smaller than that; they are not perfectly round and they do not have any gradation of pigmentation within the spots. There is no texture to them - no dry skin, they are not raised, etc. They appeared a couple of weeks ago and do not appear to be changing at all. If they had been there since birth, we would think they were birthmarks, but they just appeared. She has not been sick, although she has had basic respiratory colds on and off since winter. The only other out-of-the-ordinary thing is that she just recently (within the past week) developed a discolored looking "streak" next to one side of her mouth, which appears sort of as though she had a ribbon dragged against her face or something, but it is not red and does not hurt...and it does not wash off. Again, no texture at all - just a slightly darker shading than her usual facial skin color. (She only has 2 other ailments: (1) She intermittently - since last summer - complains of a sore ankle. She is a dancer and dances 4 classes per week, plus she plays soccer 2 practices per week plus a game...we have implemented a must-wear-supportive lace-up shoes policy to combat the ankle pain, which appears to be helping. And ahe also got hit with a huge bunch of bug bites while sitting in a sandbox without repellent this past weekend; at least a dozen bites around her hairline, all of which appear to be healing normally. I assume the ankle and the bug bites are wholly unrelated to any skin discoloration issues, but wanted to make sure you had all of the information.) Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
My suggestions and possibilities

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

By what you quote I feel it could be a fixed drug eruption and as such any drug can cause this, even Ibuprofen is also known to cause this. Usually skin and eye conditions are best diagnosed only after seeing it directly or my images. I suggest you upload the images of the lesions you are quoting in this website so that my advice will be more helpful.

Other options which I could think of are -
1. Allergy or Urticaria secondary to bugs bite as second crop of lesions are known to occur even after 2 weeks.
2. Bruising as she is more proactive and it could have been secondary to allergy.
3. Most unlikely option is that of a bleeding tendency.

Kindly send over the photos and I will help you
