What Causes Dark Stool, Excessive Gas And Flatulence?
Question: I am suffering from excessive gas and flatulence, stools are dark, haemoglobin and RBC are low. Hb is 10. Doctor whom I consulted felt there was upper GI tract bleeding and gave me Gastrozole(Rabeprazole), I have taken for 6 months but there is no relief. Kindly guide

I was just wondering whether you have undergone the tests as needed in such a case as explained by you.
I would like to know a few things before I can assist you more.
- Since when are all these problems?
- Any associated loose stools or constipation?
- Any other disease like diabetes or any general disease?
- Any allergy to any specific good or beverage?

These problems are there for a year now. No loose stools or constipation, no diabetes also. Allergic to milk. No other investigations done

I would advise the following investigations and treatment in a such a case:
Investigations:
*Upper GI Endoscopy is very important and should be done at the earliest.
*Routine blood investigations like Complete blood picture, blood sugar, urea, creatinine, liver function tests, thyroid function tests.
*Urine -routine and microscopy
*Stool: routine, microscopy, occult blood, culture and sensitivity.
*Ultrasonography of abdomen,
*Colonoscopy
* CT scan of the abdomen if required.
* Good clinical evaluation and examination by a Gastroenterologist or GI Surgeon.
This is because of the history of 1 year of problems and hence proper investigations are a must as they can help to get a perfect diagnosis and as you would agree with me, perfect diagnosis alone can give proper treatment and possible cure.
Rabeprazole alone may not help.
So please get all the basic investigations ASAP like Upper GI Endoscopy, blood, urine and stool and USG of abdomen and please let me know the reports.
