What Causes Dark Spots All The Arm,legs And Back?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Jul 2014
Question: I have these dark spots all over my arm, legs and back. During winter, they fade a bit but are in full bloom during summer or any other season. They seem like to be at the place from where small body hair come out. Sometimes they look brown, sometimes little reddish. They cause no irritation or nflammation; they are just there everytime.

Please help me with some medications, or natural way of getting rid of these.

Brief Answer:
lichenoid eruptions

Detailed Answer:
Hello young lady,

Thanks a lot for uploading the pictures for the ready reference.

After analyzing the query and the pictures I can make out the possibility of lichenoid disorder in yourself.

to tell you simply- our skin is a multilayered structure and the skin gets renewed continuously and daily. Whenever there is an injury to the skin by of heat, light or related thing then the skin becomes bit reddish or brownish. Though the process is quite complicated but I have tried to explain it in simple words. Due to high amount sunlight and heat there is a tendency in a person to get more in summer season. These eruptions are known as lichenoid eruptions.

There are different types of lichenoid eruptions and we require to see the lesions directly by physical examination. For that it is better to see dermatologist near you. I was trying to find out the exact location so that I could have guided for a better doctor. I suggest you to kindly tell me your present location. A skin biopsy may be required to diagnose the exact entity.

To take care of the problem temporarily kindly follow the suggestions below:

1. The most important measure is to avoid situations of heat, sweating and humidity for long hours.

2. Do not apply any creamy or oily stuff with fragrance in it directly at or near the affected areas.

3. Try to avoid any home remedies suggested by your friends or family members or otherwise self implicated therapies also.

4. You should wear those kind of clothes by which there should be soothing feeling the skin. Do not pinch, pop or squeeze or even touch any of the affected areas. I suggest you to even not to touch the area unnecessarily.

5. Do compressions with cold water for 3-4 times a day . Do compresses by taking a towel dipped in cold water for 5 minutes each time.

Hope these informations will help you.

If you have any further query I will be glad to help.

Regards,

With regards,

Dear Doctor,

For a nearby clinic suggestion, I live in DLF Phase III, XXXXXXX Also, I read on the internet about Lichenoid and the pictures I saw were horrible. Even if my problem is the same, I believe those were severe stages. Even more, I read that there is no permanent solution to this. Is this right?

Earlier my skin was oily but now its getting dry over time. Therefore, I have to apply something (I use Vaseline mostly because even now, I can't stand anything too oily).

On your suggestions, I am only not sure about Point No. 4. As I had mentioned it's all over (however it does not itch), I can't manage not to touch it.

Thanks
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Lichenoid disorder is a broad term;biopsy required

Detailed Answer:
Dear young lady,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for your follow up.

Let you first understand that Lichenoid disorder is a broad term and is not a pin point diagnosis itself. SO do not get confused with the pictures on internet. There are hundreds of different types of lichenoid problems.

All those condition where we see kind of flaking, brownish skin problem along with spots – we give it a broad term of lichenoid disorder.

In yourself it is very mild stage and the pin point diagnosis can be given by skin biopsy. In all your kind of cases I prefer to do a skin biopsy. In this a 3mm piece of skin is taken and sent for microscopical examination which we call as histopathology. You can take appointment with a good dermatologist near you and show him/her your problem.

Your kind of skin problem do get cured and it depends on the type of medication so do not get confused and depressed by any irrational knowledge on internet.
I am there to help you and guide you.

I hope that the information will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to help.

"With healthy skin wishes"
