Brief Answer:
seems to be recurrence of pulmonary embolism

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you having blood in the cough. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any breathlessness ?
Are you suffering from deep vein thrombophlebitis ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be recurrence of pulmonary embolism or secondary to some lung infection.

As such, pulmonary embolism most commonly results from deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot in the deep veins of the legs or pelvis) that breaks off and migrates to the lung, a process termed venous thromboembolism (VTE).

I suggest you to to consult ent surgeon and give history (drugs) and detailed Ent examination, if necessary x-ray chest (infection), blood tests (D-dimer, PT, APTT, TT) and special investigations like pulmonary angiography. Depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

Mean time, continue codeine syrup and anti allergic medication like tab.cetrizine 10mg once daily.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

The blood clot was from my leg, but I had had surgery on my foot the month prior. I am sometimes breathless but no all the time. It seems to be better today. I called my new primary care physician (DO) and she said it was just from bronchitis not to worry. Well I have had Bronchitis all my life and never coughed up blood. I also have congestive heart failure from the pulmonary embolizom as well as three blocked arteries in the heart. Kidneys are medically small with possible stenosis. I just came off of Eliquis in February. just a little scared and concerned. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
persistent blood in cough-needs investigations.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

As such, You have several reasons to have blood in cough, even bronchitis can also have bloody cough.

In case of persistence, you need to evaluate the investigations, what I have already mentioned. Till then go ahead with codeine and cough suppressants.

All the best.Take care.
