What Causes Cough And Blocked Nose Infants?
Question: Hello, My baby is 1yr 3 mths old . He is coughing And also it seems his nose is blocked and some ghur ghur noise is coming, im nebulisaing him, can I also give mucolite droos

The most common cause of cough,cold with noisy breathing in this age group is due to some viral infection.
The noisy breathing can be due to upper airway problem like nasal blockade/ pooling of secretion in throat or lower airway like spasm of the airways.
Nebulisation with bronchodialtor like salbutamol or salbutamol and ipratropium combination helps in relieving the spasm of lower airways.
Mucolite drops helps in thinning of mucus thus allows better clearance of mucoid secretion.
Also give him nasal saline drops three to four times one drop in each nostril alternatively at interval of one minute. It helps in relieving the nasal blockade.
Give him paracetamol syrup for fever if it is there.
I would suggest you to consult a physician for proper evaluation of the severity of the condition and get prescribed all theses medications as all these are prescription drugs.
