What Causes Continuous Period Bleeding And Irregular Periods?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Jun 2014
Question: I am 49 year old female in excellent health, weight, etc. My menstral cycle has been irregular for about a year. I am concerned because have had a menstral bleed for nearly three weeks. The flow started as usual with brown spotting then a day of normal flow. However since May 1 when it started my flow has been bright red, heavy for a day or so, stopping for a day, starting again the next day. The flow is also sometimes "watery". I have only recently acquired insurance coverage and my next annual check up isn't until August 5. Should I be concerned and see a doctor sooner? Or are my symptoms typical for a woman who may be going through menopause?

Brief Answer:
bleeding cause for concern

Detailed Answer:
Dear member,
Thanks for writing.
The symptoms you are having of continuous bleeding is not related only to menopause. It can be because of any cervical lesion or polyp or uterus fibroid.
Besides continuous bleeding may leave you anemic. If it worsens the you may require emergency dilatation and curettage.
So please visit your doctor at earliest for a pelvic examination and transvaginal scan.
If all reports are normal then you can take tranexamic acid to decrease the bleeding.
Please write back if you have any questions.
Thanks
