default
Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Question: Have had a couple of episodes where when eating, my throat constricts and I then throw up for a couple of hours, can't even drink water, a terrible pain in my chest, happened in December and then again this past week, almost like a food allegery maybe? In December was eating turkey, this past week, fried chicken at a company party, all of the sudden just feel this awful pain in my chest and cannot eat anything. I am not overweight, 118 lbs, very active, teach a core class at my local Y, walk the stairs at work (4 flights) a couple of times a day, any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Not allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

The vomting you have after having some food could be due to spasmic contraction of the stomach and oesophagus. This may not be due to allergy but due to so some insult caused to the stomach wall which leads it into go for a spasmic reflex contraction.

The causes for such a spasmic contraction could be gastritis, acid reflux, gastric ulcers, gastric growths etc. You may have to consult a gastroentrologist and get a upper GI endosopy to find out the reason for the same.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
