What Causes Constipation, Diarrhea And Enlarged Prostate While On Amoxycillin And Tamsulosin?

Question: I recently had a multiple hernia operation, which I have since regretted. I later learnt that my doctor brother, 7 years older than me, decided not to have to have the operation.
However, it's done, and is healing nicely after 6 weeks.

However I had my waterworks cease working, as the result of the general bruising in the area. A have had catheters inserted four times, with TWOC failing on three occasions. On this last occasion, four days without catheter is slowly improving.
The hospital insisted on me taking Tamsulosin , but having read side-effects, and from other patients who have undergone this drug treatment, I am not happy with the various ways this drug will interfere with my hormone system, and spoil my life, which, until now has been great.

I have been a wholefood vegetarian for all my adult life, and have taken supplements at low dosage. Only since this current problem ( less than a month) I have started taking a balanced natural prostate formula at full dose, rather than at quarter strength.

At 80 I expect to have an enlarged prostate, but this gives me no problems in daily life. I get NO urgency, no difficulty in urinating or emptying bladder normally, perhaps a little dribbling, which is no problem ( a paper tissue protects underpants).

My problems are now, after the catheter inserted four time, with damage to urethra probably.
At present, after four days, I get hesitation, than a few drops, and now slighter weak streams of urine, with a little discomfort, which I hope will improve.
Doctors threatened dire consequences if I cease the Tamsulosin. I have a booking to see a Urologist, who, I am convinced will be blaming my prostate for causing these problems. However I know it is not that, as this problem has only happened since the catheters (insertions and withdrawals). I certainly want to avoid any medical or surgical cutting/drilling of my prostate.

Two years ago I was diagnosed with a high PSA, but, when I refused a biopsy, and certainly would not want to have the type of surgery they might suggest, they wopuld not take my P S A again.

I have taken steps (supplements (high vit C and several others), to interfere with any potential cancer cells etc.

Have you, perhaps any alternative ideas that I may be able to carry out in the United Kingdom. I have not used Ayurvedic medicine, but tend to use natural methods. I've had virtually no health problems to treat in 60 adult years.
I feel that I've been forced into the medical system against my will, with insufficient knowledge to counter the standard medical advice, which does not seem to have much success anyway.

Brief Answer:
Ayurveda Management

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following is/are the recommended guidelines:

1. Prostate Carcinoma should be ruled out before starting Tamsulosin and since your PSA came higher but you didn't go for biopsy thus make sure you do it timely.

2. Constipation can either be due to supplements or reaction of body to any ongoing pathology inside the body since both Amoxycillin and Tamsulosin causes diarrhea.

3. In Ayurveda I usually treat my patient on the line of 'Ashthila' or "Paurush Granthi" and recommend following line of treatment:

. Avoid excess physical exertion, dry fruits and vegetables, constipation foods and suppression of natural urges( all causes aggravation of VATA).

. Tablet Himplasia (Himalaya Pharmacy): 1 tablet twice daily and treatment requires long term administration and assessment of response to treatment should be individualized with appropriate urodynamic monitoring.

PS. Himplasia relieves the symptoms of BPH with reduction in prostate weight and improves urinary flow rate while reducing post-voidal residual urine.

. Other drugs which are available on prescription/online are:
. BPH-URAL Capsule (VASU pharma)
. PROSTEEZ Tablet ( CHARAK pharma)
. XXXXXXX assav (Baidyanath pharma)

Thank you for the advice. I did realize that Aruveda medicine is a totally different system to naturopathy in the U K.
I have noted your point about 1.
Suggestion is not a problem, only after the operation, which I overcame by natural means and persistence, with no actual laxatives necessary.
I tried to Google your systems you use in 3.
I have ordered some Himplasia, although I have taken a low dose of "Doctor's Best - comprehensive prostate formula" at low dose for several years. Because of my recent problem, and to avoid the allopathic drugs, if possible, I have recently increased to normal dosage. If you do not know the product you may be able to Google it to find the ingredients, otherwise I will send you details. It is the best combination of ingredients that I have found comnpared with other natural remedies. I will be careful not to double dose your Himplasia with my existing product.
The other products you mention are either not in stock in XXXXXXX or not known in the U K.

Your first line under "treatment":
Avoid excess physical exertion, dry fruits and vegetables, constipation foods and suppression of natural urges( all causes aggravation of VATA). Since my operation and this problem, I am resting and sleeping adequately and my good wholefood regime covers the advice. Re; suppression of natural urges ( presumably you mean sexual urges)Since my operation and the resultant catheter I am avoiding the regular orgasms which I have about twice weekly, as it seems wise for a while until things are back to normal!

Thank you for your proposed usual treatment, as I was looking for some more natural alternatives to the orthodox powerful drug treatment which has such drastic effects on the whole hormone/testosterone balance.
Unfortunately the XXXXXXX system seems to not be catered for in the U K, and, though I am used to natural treatments, I realize that it is based on rather different modalities, which,I still find it difficult to grasp.
Do you find that medical doctors accept your traditional system, or are they as dismissive as our doctors in the West?

Brief Answer:
Allopath Doctors do recommend Alternative Medicines in Old Age.

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back.

1. As AGE is a deciding factor thus here in XXXXXXX doctors do not operate in geriatric age group (unless necessary and important) and themselves recommend them to opt for alternative therapies since patient himself does not want to undergo any surgical procedure at this age, which is why they go with traditional medicines to improve their quality of life rather than to get bed ridden.

2. Dietary Aspect will play an important part in your present condition, which is as follows:
. TAKE: old brown rice, soup of green gram, horse gram, garlic, fresh fruits, bitter gourd, barley water, orange or sweet lime juice.

AVOID: newly harvested rice, refined powder, jaggery, curd, cakes, pastry, cheese, potato, chick pea flour, tomato, vinegar, lemon, tea, spicy/hot/constipating food.
