What Causes Constant Yawning During Physical Exercise?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Jul 2017
Question: I am a very fit 48 year old woman. I am experiencing a constant need to yawn. About once minute. It is better when I first wake up in the morning and tends to get worse through the day. It is not made worse by exercise and seems to be alleviated during exercise. This has lasted for 5 days. It is hard to fall asleep because it is so annoying. When I wake up in the night to go to the bathroom it doesn't seem to happen.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to electrolyte imbalance or oxygen deprivation.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that somehow you have developed an electrolyte imbalance. I would insist you to increase total fluid (water) intake and to take plenty of ORS (oral rehydration solution) to replenish the lost fluids and salts. Take juicy fruits like citrus fruits. They contain plenty of potassium which should help.

Paucity of oxygen could also be a factor and I would insist you to visit a ENT doctor to rule out any obstructive cause that could be impeding with the process.

Try the following technique while going to bed: Inhale over 6 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale over 8 seconds, then repeat the process. It will make you relax and go to sleep easily.

Let me know what happens next and also if I could help further.

Regards
