default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I'm quite ill which started last night....my head & body aches, etc....(see symptoms). I also ride a bicycle around 600 miles per month. I drink a lot of fluids, before, during & after and lots of fruit & vegetables and foods with high protein content. While riding, I eat Cliff Bars and drink around 3-4 qts. of water, especially when it's hot. When it is hot, I do my rides at twilight. I ride approximately 30-35 miles per ride at around 15mph.

Brief Answer:
Can be some acute infection and may settle in a day or two

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, the athleticism you have mentioned, it is commendable and all the work out and effort you do for keeping up a good hygiene and health is indeed worth following for us all.

Based on the nonspecific history you have shared, it can be an acute infection either viral or bacterial, and may settle at its own in a day or two.

Taking OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for next 2-3 days will help. Meanwhile monitor for any altered gastric or respiratory habits and any swelling or possible focus of infection in whole body.

Some basic blood work up may be needed if it doesn't settle in two or three days and to start with complete blood picture and ESR and CRP may be needed as well as X-ray and urinalysis.

Taking antibiotics empirically may be suggestive if fever persists beyond 3-4 days. Hope you will be fine in a matter of days. If any of the symptoms worsen kindly give the feedback so that we can proceed accordingly.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Regards.
