What Causes Constant Darkened Discoloration Under Eyes?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: Why do I have constant black under my eyes, (raccoon eyes). After sleeping well, I still have black under my eyes and it has been like that since my early teens. I am now 22 and it seems to be getting worse. Im a regular gym user and keep fit and eat healthy. I sometimes get hot flushes and as a male, is this normal? It might be linked. I have previous history for being low on iron but do supplement this daily. The black under my eyes is very noticeable and isnt due to a head injury. I have hit my head a few times when I was younger and noticed that raccoon eyes became apparent straight after but disappeared.

Brief Answer:
Periorbital melanosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM...

I understand your concern for periorbital melanosis. There may be some cause. It may be hereditary also. Allergies might cause dark circles around eyes. Even smoking can lead to such problem.Drinking excessive coffee, soda or caffein beverages might enhance the pigmentation around the eyes. Irregular eating, poor diet, improper sleeping..etc might contribute dark circles.

You consult dermatologist to have perfect diagnosis and investigations. However I would suggest as follow....

1) Most important thing is to identify the various causes such as allergies, depression, weakness of eye muscles etc and treat the underlying causes.
2) you may apply under eye cream, promising to remove dark circles, which might..
-prevent moisture loss.
-assists the skin in absorbing moisture from the air.
-compensates the skin with the natural sebum it may lack.
-stimulates blood circulation (usually mild action only).

3)Acugel ...an ultrasonic waves based therapy that effectively helps in penetration of lightening complex deep in the skin which reduces periorbital melanosis and also reduces the puffiness leaving them refreshed and rejuvenated.

4)Tightening of under eye skin with non-ablative RF is an effective way to reduce the lines and wrinkles thereby reducing the appearance of under eye contour.

5)Peeling with glycolic acid and use of kojic acid might improve the codition.

6)Orally you may take glutathion tab, vitamin C and nicotinic acid tab for long time.

Have patience....for the good result. Avoid anxiety and tension. Take proper food and have good sleep. You might be benefitted.

I hope this would help you..still any query, you may ask.

Thanks.

I was worried this might be something to do with the brain for example a brain tumor as I'm aware that you can get raccoon eyes from a brain issue. Thanks for the advice and identifying the issue.
