What Causes Colour Change In Tooth After An Injury?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: My daughter got her tooth knocked at daycare and it started to turn grey. After the dentist told me she was destined to have a dead tooth, it turned pearly white about a month later! How and why did this happen? It's as if she regenerated! (Lol). Even her pediatrician believed it was a dead tooth. (She is 3 btw)

Brief Answer:
use xray and vitalty tests!!!

Detailed Answer:
Hello.First of all thanks for approaching Healthcaremagic for your query.I read through your query.I must say that its a usual phenomenon to have a grey tooth first as the bloodvessel inside the tooth must have been ruptured resulting in contents of the blood moving into tooth layers. And after few days it may become usual as the contents might have been removed by body's immune system. It is due to the sudden trauma. For knowing whether the tooth is vital or not you might have to take an xray and also check vitalty by vitalty tests(to be performed by your dentist). It is not an untreatable situation. The tooth might have to undergo pulpectomy procedure(removal of the vessels inside the tooth and get it filled with medicinal filling)and get it covered by strip crown..And also you have to check for the underlying toothbud of permanent teeth if the root is impinging on the bud.Nothing to be worried off. This age children will have trauma like this.It can be treated as well.Be cool and take her to a pedodontist and get it treated.Hope you are benefitted something from my reply. If more queries please be free to approach us.Have a healthy day!!!
