Posted on Sat, 24 Jan 2015
Question: Ive been battling a cold with a deep chest cough, fever, hot and cold sweats and have been taking lots of tylenol cold. Now i look at the back of my throat and see really dark purple veins and some red spots. Alot of the symptoms seem to be slowly getting better but ive never noticed the veins so noticable before. Look forward to your reply thanks.

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of pharyngitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HalthcareMagic.
Thanks for posting to us.

I have gone through your query in detail, and understand your concerns.

The picture shows an inflamed pharynx with enlarged adenoids and congested blood vessels. This is suggestive of acute pharyngitis.
If this is not associated with throat pain or fever, initially we treat with warm saline gargles 6-8 times a day and add antibiotics if no response by 2 days.

But, as you was already suffering from a lower respiratory tract infection(fever, deep cough, cold sweats) , in my opinion, it is better to start antibiotics soon.

It will be fine if you can visit your doctor for chest examination and initiation of antibiotic treatment.
Meanwhile, you avoid cold drinks and start warm saline gargles.

Hope this answer will help.
If you have further questions, I will be happy to help.
Wishing for a faster cure.
Thank you.
