Brief Answer:
Sometimes symptoms may be prolonged in common cold

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

thanks for posting your query on HCM.

common cold is generally a viral infection. However some doctors prescribe antibiotics to prevent super added bacterial infection.

At times symtoms of cold may be prolonged for a long time esp if person also has allergies. Do you have any kind of allergies? In common cold , there is involvement of nose, throat, sinuses, ears etc and they become very sensitive hence the symptoms of headache, irritation in the nose and throat and sneezing.

You may take antiallergens like cetrizine and a nasal spray like fluticasone or metaspray. Take plenty of fluids and avoid dust and smoke. Soon you will be alright.

However if symptoms worsen or you develop fever, severe chest pain, it's better to consult your PCP
