What Causes Chronic Bladder Infections And Herpes?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Apr 2015
Question: I have had chronic bladder infections my whole life. I'm 57 and have had a urine test strip and results show leucocytes and nitrates. It was sent out for a culture but shows no bacterial growth. I have contracted herpes in the last six months but tested negative for STD's. Still having burning and frequency? Have an appointment with a urologist. But not till Tuesday and concern I might be waiting to long. I also drink alcohol (vodka) every night. Stopped that this month but very concern its my kidneys. Help please...should I go to the ER or wait.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to Over Active Bladder Syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have frequency and burning urination since long period of years.

Your urine examination revealed presence of Leukocytes while the culture is negative.

Burning urination with increased frequency for a long period without any positive evidence of infection is strongly suggestive to be due to what is called as
Over Active Bladder.

Please start taking Darifenacin once daily with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily .

You can certainly wait till Tuesday (Scheduled to consult Urologist .)

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions
I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Would their be any possibility of a kidney infection? I have not had a fever. My history of UTI's have been related to E coli. Could I have contracted Hep C from getting Herpes. I have never been a drug addict and have had only several sexual partners in my life.

Brief Answer:
There is no possibility of kidney stone .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
In absence of any pain and other symptoms like fever ,hematuria it is unlikely that you have kidney stone. However Ultrasound Scanning will help to rule out Kidney Stone .

As regards Hepatitis C you need to do blood test for Hepatitis C to confirm the same .
