Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: I'm experiencing chills, weakness, and low body temp of 95.7. Anxiety is an issue controlled with prescribed Valium. No appetite. Food does not sit well and have had incidents of nausea and vomiting after eating. Have lost 40 lbs in past 6 months due to this. No blood pressure problems. No diabetes. Extremely high good and bad cholesterol (>300 on both). Intolerant of statins. Have been diagnosed with cervical dystonia by movement disorder specialist. Treatment with low dose primidone.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

Now, let me go into your actual health problems one by one:
- chills, weakness and low body temperature: all are signs of possible viral infection (flu). Have you noticed them during these 6 months or just recently? Perhaps your immune system is weak and you're more prone to get flu.

- food does not sit well, incidents of nausea and vomiting after eating. Now you say to have used statins for extremely high blood cholesterol. Have you had nausea and vomiting after starting statins or even before their use?

- Cervical dystonia is being treated actually with primidone. Can you please explain whether nausea/vomiting has started? getting worse? with the use of primidone? or they were present before?

- Having UTI infection can also cause: chills, weakness, low body temp, sometimes with nausea/vomiting. Treating it adequately can help. If sulfa drugs is provoking nausea/vomiting, then, another antibiotic can be used e.g. Levofloxacin or fosfomycin (Monuril). Can discuss this further with your doctor.

- Problems with gallbladder (sludge? inflammation? infection?) can also cause nausea/vomiting after eating. Further investigations are recommended including abdominal ultrasound and liver/kidney/pancreas function test.

If you have any test done so far, can you please send a copy of the results to me for further evaluation?
